Trek from Chopta to Chandrashila

After enjoying river rafting, Cliff Jumping, and Banana Boat in the Holy Ganga River, it was time to move on to Chopta. Since we didn’t book a taxi beforehand, we asked our Camp in charge to arrange one for us and he agreed. The taxi took a quite long to reach our camp, till then we just sat near the river and enjoyed watching other tourists play in the river.

After 2-3 hours of waiting, finally, the taxi reached our camp and we were all set to go.

The drive from Rishikesh towards Chopta was very beautiful except for the fact that it was hot as hell as it was peak summer season.

Since we were in a group, time passed away very fast and soon we reached Devprayag and halted for a few minutes only just to capture the meeting point of two rivers – Alaknanda and Ganga.
Very soon we were on the move again towards Chopta.

At the end of the day, since we started late from Rishikesh (at around 2pm), we were able to make it to Rudraprayag only. We reached Rudraprayag around 8 pm. We didn’t move further as it is not permitted here to drive after 7 pm due to increased accidents and hilly terrain. So we decided to spend the night at Rudraprayag only as we didn’t want to risk night driving in the hills.

The taxi driver told us that we can go up to Ukhimath but it is of no use as cops will not let us move after Ukhimath to Chopta, Chopta is under the forest department and the barrier to Chopta is closed at night. So we decided to spend the night at Rudraprayag only.

The next morning we started for Chopta at around 7 am. At starting, the weather was a little ok but soon with time mercury level again started increasing and it became very hot. It was very hot till Ukhimath after that mercury level started dropping and a little before Chopta (and in Chopta also) weather was just PERFECT. Even at noon, Chopta was a little cold; the temperature might be around 18-19 degrees Celsius or somewhat less.

We reached Chopta at about 12 noon and as we were already late for trekking, in no time, without any rest, we started our trek towards Tungnath (Tungnath from Chopta is 3.35 Kms). Within a few minutes of walking, the landscape started changing and becoming more and more beautiful. From the very beginning till the top, the views were amazing, fantastic, mind-blowing, and whatever words you can think of. We couldn’t resist ourselves to stop very frequently for photographs. The views on the trek route easily made it to the list of the best views we ever came across in our life.

We reached Tungnath Temple at around 3:30 pm (it took a long time to cover 3.35 Kms). It was quite cold there, the temperature being around 8-10 degrees.

After completing all religious rituals at the temple, we moved on to Chandrashila (the highest point), and in about 1 hour we reached Chandrashila (1.5 km from Tungnath) after reaching Chandrashila, all our tiredness went away. The views from there were just awesome, and cannot be expressed in words. So let the images do the rest of the talking –
